Spruce makes it an even dozen

It’s great to have friends who still beckon you back to the bay area frequently for important events. The last Spruceman, Yee, tied the knot up on Skyline Boulevard above Palo Alto. Leda got a chance to celebrate her birthday with her both sets of left coast grandparents (taking the total number of second birthday celebrations up to 3) and eat some of Elvis’ favorite pound cake. Later that day, we were off to the wedding where she enjoyed hanging out with her sapling-in-arms, Jay. They were rather oblivious to the goings on, but really liked the band (Taarka), the large grassy area with swing, and the cake (Leda swiped a bit of the frosting in a quick move reminiscent of Lawrence Taylor from Tecmobowl circa 1991).

Leda and Jay show here why they are sweet kids who know how to party… even though they both went to bed before the real carousing began.

Sheepies

It’s been a while, so therefore we’ve got to quite a backblog here at Gliderboy. About three weeks ago we took off to the Valley Shepherd Creamery in Long Valley, NJ. Over 250 head of sheep at the farm, where cheese making is the focus (so no lamb burgers available). Great tour of all their facilities. Their automated milking machine (which handles 25 sheep at a time and can do the whole flock under 2 hrs) is an amazing feat of mechanical technology. Also their cheese creation and aging rooms were very interesting, looking at all the basic chemistry (temperature, humidity, active cultures and molds) that is centuries old which goes into the sheep making process. Leda liked petting and feeding the sheep the best. We’ll probably head back in April to witness the lambing season. This answers two important questions: 1) How do the sheep continue to produce milk year after year? and 2) What could possibly be cuter than Leda frolicking among 200 newborn lambs?
