Cafe Culture

These truly are the doldrums of winter. I’d say dog days but check out the Wikipedia article on that to see the importance of rising Sirius (“dog star”) in the naming of that particular summer boredom period. Winter has past the excitement of catching flakes on the tongue or making snow angels after school. Now it’s been cold and rainy outside for the past few weeks and people are scrambling to get out of the house for the briefest of respites. Therein lies the insidious nature of the cafe culture.

This is not the coffee spectacle endemic of the age of enlightenment when the caffeine rush was considered a mind-bending intoxicant, thus altering the collective consciousness. Rather, parents, after tiring of arts/crafts/play-doh/dancing/toys/singing/tomfoolery, are ready for a change of scenery that is low impact. Thus the cafe outing was resurrected, but this time with muffins.

This is not so say that February is all hot chocolates and tasty little cakes. But the photos from this month all seem to have a theme and narrowly focused locale.
