Tradition…Tradition!

I suppose the third year, or the third annual something, qualifies as a tradition (and here I’d love to shout it out like Chaim Topol/Zero Mostel with a fiddler at my heels). Thusly, we made our annual pilgrimage to the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx. By now we’ve got our own little Italian cafe to visit beforehand to get just the right cappuccino and small creme filled treats. Then off to see the trains and the gingerbread houses.

The trains don’t really change that much from year to year. The layout is pretty much the same and only a handful of new structures appear every year. That doesn’t tamp our excitement for seeing the local landmarks constructed out of flora and trains running in the interstices. The girls were wowed by the display and really enjoyed seeing the trains zip by the buildings. Then, we always head over to the children’s garden where they show off the spices (in their whole, unground form) which go into gingerbread and have some very nice mazes, displays, and gingerbread houses to play in. It’s a most enjoyable tradition.
